LIVING BIRDS
Paintings and drawings of living birds are completed directly in the field. Sometimes, initial fieldwork will be developed and worked up in the studio. My wish is to express the bird’s energy within the environment.
DEAD BIRDS
The dead bird paintings were originally intended to improve my understanding of bird plumage. With time, however, they have evolved into something quite different. I paint dead birds that I have found or that have been given to me. The ‘colour code’ of each bird’s plumage is something that interests me greatly.
ADVENTURES IN TIME AND SPACE
I am particularly interested in changes in the landscape through time and space, and I’ve made several repeated studies of various places – sometimes over a period of minutes or hours, and sometimes over a year. I am likewise obsessed with the visual plane and how we perceive colour and distance, and have made several installations that investigate this with anamorphic perspective.
LIMITED EDITION PRINTS
In the studio, I make small editions of limited-edition lino-cut prints, based on my sketches and fieldwork. I often use the reduction method with one plate and several colours.
